The Art of the Bank Shot.

Alright guys, sorry this'll be a pretty quick post but it'll definitely be a very helpful one if you want to improve your game. Many players focus only on "cashing" shots, or rather having them go straight in the net and they forget how useful a fundamental bankshot can be. Generally bank shots have less arc and go straight off the backboard into the net rather then it having time to float in the air. Bank shots are extremely quick and efficient and I think you guys should definitely check out this video.

Thanks loyal followers :)

Basketball (Ball Handling Specific) -Riley

Hey guys, I know it's been so long since I've blogged, god it feels weird. haha. Anyways, thought I'd get up one quick blog before the weekend because Justin and I are going to the cabin so we won't be able to blog until Monday but we'll definitely both blog that day. Make sure to check out both posts cause there will be some interesting stuff. Anyways, today I decided to focus specifically on ball handling and how to progress and get better. Being more comfortable with the ball and all. First of all, there is a program I would DEFINITELY love to recommend if anyone is interested. It does cost a bit of $$ though so beware :).

Alright so this guy is Micah Lancaster and he's a professional basketball trainer who works side by side with a guy named Ganon Baker who in my opinion is one of the most versatile basketball players ever, just watch the goddamn videos.. Anyways, this guy has some amazing handles and tips on how to get better overall as a player. If you're serious about your game you should definitely check out his videos, they're great. The link to their website with the program is in that video as well.

ALRIGHT, now lets get down to it, what makes a great dribbler:

First of all, have you ever noticed how all those small guys usually have insane handles, the reason for that is because they are low to the ground which is KEY. You want to be low to the ground when you're dribbling it gives the ball less time to hit the ground and more time for control. Less time for defenders to react. This is probably one of the most important tips when it comes to ball handling. Remember, PRACTICE IS PERFECT. The more you practice your dribbling the better and more natural it will get. Another key when dribbling is that it IS okay to start dribbling with your head down, but you have to have the mentality of progressing and moving to keeping your head up at all times. It gives you room to give head fakes or whatever it takes to beat your defender off the dribble.

I don't really have time at the moment to go into specific drills as I'm leaving in <5 minutes, so I thought I would just link you to this guy's youtube channel it's great and he has some free drills for ball handling CHECK IT OUT:

http://www.youtube.com/user/superhandles

One last thing, Justin and I will not be blogging again until Monday because we're both going to the cabin (as previously stated) but I promise that Monday we'll have some exciting stuff for you guys. Thanks for being so loyal and have a great weekend everyone :)

Hockey - Justin

It's definitely been awhile, Im really sorry guys ! Anyways. I have been strait hockey training at a facility called NRG for the past month and a bit. (Old blog explains what NRG is) 6 Days a week ! 9 in the morning, but I have to wake up at 8 and bike or jog 5km too get there every morning. I started NRG June 15'th, I was 170 pounds, 14 percent body fat, and 5'9. For the past month and a bit I've been training like crazy. Im already 5'10, 11 percent body fat, and 180 pounds. That was my goal, and I still have another month of this training ! I've also been hitting the ice a lot, my skills are getting better, but the I will be hitting the ice really hard, near the end of augest. My goal is to my AAA Hawks, the second best AAA team in western Canada ! Im training like crazy, and hopefully I complete my goal and make the team.

Apologies.. :D

Heey everyone, sorry for not posting in the longest time but Justin and I were extremely busy with exams, and we travelled to Mexico for the first month of summer vacation. We're back now though, we just got back on Friday and we decided we're going to reopen our blog. For being gone for so long we're going to do our best to try and blog at least once per day. We'll probably end up alternating days but you never know :P.  But yeah, just posting this blog to let you guys know that we're coming back with more posts, and better tips/drills to improve your game.

Thanks for being loyal and following us guys , we'll definitely make it worth your time!

Basketball shooting technique

Hello guys, sorry for not posting a blog in a while, I've been extremely busy with exams and what not. Anyways, today I'm going to share with you techniques to getting a perfect shot. This will be all about developing that stroke that scouts and coaches look for.
There's 4 things that I'd like to talk about when it comes to shooting.

1.) Efficiency and Consistency
2.) Line of Precision
3.) Top follows bottom
4.) Mechanics

Effiency and Consistency:

Re-create exact matches. I'm a firm believer in what can be done once can be done again and again. Basically if you can hit a shot from one spot, if you create the exact same form you should be able to hit that shot very very often. Being consistent will help your shot A LOT and you'll be able to sink those late game jumpers you need to win.

Making sure you don't alter your form when you're under fatigue. You have to be ready when it counts in the fourth quarter. If your form is different each time you shoot, imagine late when the fatigue gets on you. You don't use your legs and your form gets back which throws off your shot.

Line of Precision:

The most efficient direct flow of power from ground into the ball.
Every single shot has to use the mechanics that create a line of precision. When it's broken you lose power, range and speed. Overall it becomes weaker.

Straight line from your feet (same side foot as your shooting arm)

TOP FOLLOWS BOTTOM
1.) Hips follow feet
2.) Shoulder follows hips
3.) Arm follows shoulders
4.) Hand follows elbow
5.) Ball follows hands

If one thing is off it upsets the entire chain. You need to get each joint in the chain perfect. It ALL starts with the feet.

1.) Feet - BIGGEST MISTAKE: Not squaring your feet

1a)Made your feet shoulder-width apart or slightly inside
1b) Balls of feet, balanced.
1c) 1 foot slightly in front
1d) All ten toes to the hoop.

2.) Knees

Overtop of your feet
Develop a straight line of power

3.) Hips

They follow your feet
Square them to the hoop
Shoulders follow hips
DO NOT TURN YOUR HIPS IN THE AIR.

4.) Shoulders

Follow hips
Squared to hoop
Ball momentum is brought to where the shoulers turn
Squared Shoulders is equal to a straight ball path!

5.) Elbow

Roughly 90 degree shooting pocket
SQUARE IT.
Make sure it's a straight line of precision it won't be perfect though.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST, make sure the ball isn't too tight to your hand and be comfortable with it. Confidence is key.

I know I emphasized squaring a lot, but it is probably THE most important thing when it comes to shooting.

Hockey - Stick Handeling Video # 1

Me and My friend Cole were just dickin'around this weekend and decided to make a quick video so here it is, just to show you some footage. This is the shortest video we will be making, but its just an introduction to the  videos we'll make. Im the thicker shorter one (180, 5'10) Cole is the taller lankier one (150 6'0) Before you play just remember, this is my second year, and the amazing Cole has been playing his whole life. He's AAA by the way.

NRG Fitness

What NRG Fitness Is

NRG Fitness is a diverse fitness center to make you a better hockey player. They work on specific muscles to get you that much better. It works on a skating treadmill, your cardio/running/speed, your muscles/strength, and your skills! It runs out of Winnipeg Manitoba, and is a really good thing to go to if you want to become more developed, and a better hockey player.

Why Im Going To NRG

If you haven't already read my previous blogs, I am a kid that just started hockey last year, and am developing un humanly. I am playing the second highest level (AA) on my second year playing! This year I am going hard this summer with a goal in mind to make the highest level (AAA) I am going hard. I am going to NRG become it works on your speed, skating, skill, and strength. Pretty much everything for only 500 dollars a month. I am going for 2 months this summer. It is 6 times a week. Monday, Wednesday and Friday is all strength and weight workouts. Tuesday, and Thursday is on ice. While Sunday is strait cardio, Saturday of course is the day off.

Skating Tredmill

The skating treadmill is a treadmill that you skate on. Impossible right? WRONG. It is a Multi-Milliondollar machine consisting of skatable material that runs the way a regular treadmill would. Check the video below to get what I'm talking about.

The Skating Tredmill with help me with my overall skating! From Cross overs, to my stride, all the way to agility, and acceleration. I am looking forward to this!

Cardio - Sundays

Every Sunday is hard intense cardio. We run to a foot ball field, and run and run and run. We'll be working on the ladder for our fast feet, sprints for our overall speed, and cardio just to trim fat, and overall health. Sundays will definitely be one of the harder days.

Weight/Strength Training - Monday Wednesday and Friday

I am already pretty thick, but the weights, and strength excersies they do are not normal. They are so hard! If you don't think you can do something, the trainers make you believe you can, and you can do more than ever expected! They just don't do curls for the girls, they do everything there, and especailly muscles and compound exercises that help you with your hockey directed muscles. Such as squats, and deadlifts!

On Ice Training -  Tuesday Thursday

Last year I heard NRG was a lot of bag skating, and sprint skating. This year they are going for more of a skill approach. There is a lot of skill handling, and shooting drills. I love hitting the ice, and this ice time is helping me develop a lot faster than I would playing street hockey, or just stick handling at home. The on Ice Runs out of Canlan Ice Sports

Final Words

Personally I really suggest for all you players that have an NRG Fitness near you, go to it, work it, and work hard. You get what you put into it. I am still going to workout at home, and work on skills at home. Please don't think I am spoiled because my parents arent spending there money on this. I saved up money on my own. Also, I got where I am right now with just working out at home. So working out at home combined with NRG Fitness, I really hope can make me meet my goal of AAA

Basketball blog :)

This isn't going to be a particularly long blog due to the fact that I haven't gotten much practice in lately because of highjump, but I want to write to let you guys know that I'm still here :). Justin should be making a nice blog tomorrow as I know he's been practicing hard lately.

Basically the only practice I've gotten lately has been shooting around, no scrimmages or anything. Mostly form shooting infact. (Also, I know this has NOTHING to do with Basketball, but I got accepted into Law class at my school next year! It might cut down the basketball a bit though, owell)

Alright so anyways, I guess I'll just post some important things you need to know if you're planning to be good, or improve at basketball. First of all, basketball is about 90% mental. I know players who aren't very good, but can score. Why? Well they're not scared to take it to the rim, that's the problem with most players now a days, including myself, we're scared to take it to the rim. Sure you can have all these fancy crossovers, you can have a sick jump shot but what does it matter if you're to scared to shoot. Confidence is KEY. Another thing most people forget is their shot, they see like Derrick Rose and all the great point guards getting in the lane and scoring at will. But I'm a firm believer that if you can shoot, you can play basketball. If you can consistently hit a shot from anywhere on the court, you can score. Another thing when you want to improve would be your speed. If you're a bigger guy on the slower side you definitely want to do some resistance training and improve upon your speed. Even the smaller guys could always get faster, imagine taking your defender off the dribble EVERY single time. Another thing would be strength. I know some pretty small guys who can get in the lane very consistently because of the fact that they're so strong.  I'd definitely recommend that if you're small, gain strength. A lot of it. Another thing that is of great benefit would be your vertical, I've seen people score 15+ per game just off of put backs. I think the main workout you should be doing if you want to be successful would be something like this:

First I would say that you should definitely warm up. Get your muscles ready, and stretch. Streching is SO important, and most people overlook this. Flexibility is a key thing when you want to be good at basketball. I would say using a foam roller would be a fantastic choice. I have a video posted above. Anyways, after that I'd say getting your shot going with some form shooting followed by about 10-20 shots from about 10 different spots on the court would be good. Do some dribbling drills, 1 and 2 balls whatever your comfort level is, followed by a workout. Most coaches do drills and drills and they don't realize that players need IN GAME experience. I'm a strong believer in scrimmages, so I think that you should scrimmage and I also believe you should ALWAYS track your progress. I know it helps me a ton to know that I AM improving even if it's only bit by bit.

Anyways, I'm running out of things to say, so I'll just end it here. Getting pretty tired as well, thanks so much for following and commenting on our blogs, it means so much. Justin should be posting a blog tomorrow.

National Floorball Tourney!

Floorball is a new sport created in 1970 in Europe, to try an combined hockey, and a few other sports. It is basically floor hockey mixed with soccer, and a little bit of lacrosse. You use a whiffle ball, and a stick. The stick isn't very tall, it is also very light. The sport is like lacrosse because if you are good enough you can scoop the ball up, and do cool tricks with it. Anyways the basic rules are very similar to hockey, 5 players and a goalie on each team. Objective is too score. So basically floor hockey, with a European twist.

I haven't heard of this sport since a couple months back. I was very interested, so I wanted to play. I looked for a team, and found st.james floor ball club. I made the team, and we went to represent our province, and basically western Canada in the Canada Cup. A nation floor ball Tournament. This is where the best in the world come to compete. It was only my first time ever playing floor ball, but I was confident.

This is a picture of me in the tournament.

This is me Dangling the oppenent at the Canada Cup.

The tournament wasn't a huge success for the team, but a minor success for me and a couple other team mates. I finished off with about 15 points, my other teammates Chase Harrison, and Cole McCartan finished with a large sum of points too! Floorball is an amazing sport, search it up on the internet and find out more about it. I just started and turned out to be one of the best.

Yet another basketball blog!

PLEASE READ THE WHOLE POST BEFORE WATCHING THE VIDEO. thanks

Holy crap, did you guys see the game the other day? Down by 15 with 6 minutes left and the Mavericks just started giving it to them, Dirk Nowitzki is definitely having one of his best seasons ever! And he had such a clutch play at the end of the game, Bosh got messed... Wade almost hit that buzzer beater though, thank god he didn't.

Alright anyways, I haven't really gotten to play ball much, and I slept through my game this morning -_-, so I'm just going to write down a list of things that you should do to increase your vertical.

There are a whole bunch of things that are factors, or rather "faucets" of increasing your vertical..

1st: Strength
2nd: Speed
3rd: Flexibility

For me, these three are the main things you need in order to increase your vertical. The basic things are the faster you are, the more propulsion you're going to get, or rather, the higher you'll jump. If you're stronger, your muscles will be able to push you higher, and last of all, if you're flexible your body is able to use more muscles to jump. Rest is very important in increasing your vertical, most people just go to the gym and work out their legs everyday, that's a very bad idea. You need to balance it out, such as working on strength, then maybe speed the next day with resistance training, and then take a days rest and repeat. I would suggest stretching 2-5 times per day extensively. People are also forgetting the approach. Your approach is a great deal as to how high you can jump. This video above explains it pretty well in my opinion. I'm going to keep this basic, but for exercises I would focus on your core (VERY important), doing squats, deadlifts, and depth jumps/calf raises. Those 4 exercises are four of my favourites, and I believe they've helped my vertical out.

Thanks for reading and following my blog you guys,
also we have reached over 100 followers! Woo! :),

Not much, but basketball.

Sorry guys, it's been a while since I've posted a blog. I've been a little busy. Anyways! 2nd round of the Heat and Mavericks tonight! Who do you guys want to win the series? I want Dallas to win, but I think Miami will take it. :S. Okay anyways, back to personal basketball things!

I haven't gotten to practice much as of late because my knees are really bad, but I can definitely feel my shot improving a lot, and my step back improving a lot. I'm not the fastest person, but I'm pretty fast. As of late, I'm thinking the thing I need the most is to increase the speed of my crossovers. If you look up Austin Rivers on youtube you'll see. His shot isn't the greatest, and he's not super fast. But goddamn.. He has crazy fast crossovers! It's always good to have a good shot though, and personally I'm one to believe that peoples' shooting is the most important thing in all of basketball, but now that I have a pretty consistent shot, I'm thinking speed on my crossovers should be top priority. Anyone know of any ways to increase the speed of my crossovers? I was thinking of just setting up cones and doing basic moves at each cone first at maximum speed until I master it, and then moving onto more difficult things. :O, Help me out here guys!

Alright! Anyways, yesterday I got to play a little ball and I went to the ymca. It was pretty packed though so I didn't get much shots up, played a couple games of 4on4 and played decent but whatever. I got friggin' tackled though and got a crazy charlie horse. Still hurts :(. Anyways, I won't have any basketball blogs to post for maybe another week or so, I'll still blog. But I have provincial high jump coming up so I won't be able to play basketball very much as I have to make icing my legs, and practicing top priority. Thank you for all the support guys, we've reached 95 followers and I never though this would happen. Thanks

Canucks vrs Bruins

As most of you know, there is a national hockey league called the NHL. The national hockey league has around 82 season games, then play offs, where the teams that did the best in the season square off to battle for the prize called the stanely cup! This year teams fought hard, and now the Boston Bruins, are facing the Vancouver Canucks for the Cup!

The first game was yesterday, it was close, but the Canucks manage to score with 19 seconds left to claim victory.

My personal belief is that the Canucks will sweep the Bruins 4 game to 0. The series is out of 7 by the way. I will keep you posted, and tell you updates from the other games, and my opinions.

Look at my other blogs if you want to see some more hockey! Also, my friend Riley does blogs on this channel about Basketball!

Muscles for Hockey.

Im going to catergorize the muscles into groups. Upper Body, Core, and Legs. In those groups I'll explain muscles and what they do for hockey.

Upper Body

Chest
- The chest, or known as pecs are amazing for your overall upper body stability, and muscle mass. This will help your balance, and hitting. The chest is a great muscle, similar to the shoulders for usage in hockey.

Shoulders
- Most hockey players end up with weak shoulders. The shoulder muscle is good for overall upper body stability.  It will help you with hitting, stick handling, and winning battles. The shoulder is an overall good hockey muscle.

Biceps
- Biceps are not that important when it comes to hockey, they are good for stick lifts, and maybe if you get into a fight, to help you with your upper cut, or left hook. Honestly the bicep is just for show. You know what they say "curls for the girls". So when it comes to hockey, don't focus on this muscle.

Triceps
- Triceps are not very helpful, kind of similar to the bicep. They look great at the beach, but honestly you'll probably only use your tri's a little bit in your shot, and when fighting. Don't focus on this muscle.

Core

Back
- Your back is one of the most important muscles when it comes to hockey. All the way from shooting, all the way to fighting, and hitting. EVERYTHING. Any pulling, or moving, pretty much anything requires strength from your back. Focus on this muscle, it will help you a tremendous amount. This muscle also helps with your skating, almost all the starting power starts from your core.

Abs
- The abdominal muscles are amazing when it comes to hockey. The abs are pretty similar to the back when it comes to hockey. They help out with balance, a little bit of everything, and your overall endurance. This muslce also helps with your skating, almost all the starting power starts from your core.

Hip Flexors
- The hip flexor muscle is really helpful for turning, balance, and your overall stride. This muscle is amazing when it comes to skating!

Legs

Calfs
- The legs are very important because legs are the base for a good skater. The calfs happen to be the least important leg muscle. All the calf really helps with is your extension on your stride. It gives you that little extra umph! because the stronger the calf, the harder the toe snap, the quicker you are.

Quads
- Quads are definitely the most important leg muscle. Most of the power comes from your quads for your stride. A good strong quad, give you speed, agility, and even a nice hard shot, and balance. This is a great muscle to work.

Hamstrings
- Hamstrings are very similar to quads when it comes to hockey. It helps with agility, speed, power, pretty much everything, but just not as much at the quads. A great, muscle to work on though.

Hope you enjoyed my blog on my opinions on hockey, and which muscles to workon, and why. Here are the 3 best compound workouts you can do to make you the best at hockey you possible can be.

The best compound workouts to workout all of these are :
Deadlifts,
Benchpress,
Squats,

Supplements.

My name is Justin Penner, as you already know. I was asking people's opinion on supplements. I will put a list of supplements, and vitamins I take. I was wondering if you could put your input on what supplements I should take, and which ones benefit you, and how. I am also considering taking creatine, please put your advice/input in the comments below.

I take Iso Flex Protein before a workout, then during I have 2 scoops of Extend, which is pure amino acids, and then when I am done I take another shake of Iso Flex. Please give me advice, and proper vitamins to take, and things like that, very appreciated.

Today and yesterday's games.

Frick, so here I am practicing to gain my confidence back and for what.. Yesterday I had a game, and I played pretty good, I was consistent and I wasn't scared to shoot. I had 23 points. Today I had a game, and I was passing up every fricken shot, I was scared but I don't know why.... It's dumb.

Anyways, starting to get back into the weightroom for basketball, so I don't want to lift too heavy. Keep in mind I'm 6 feet and only 150 pounds so I'm pretty skinny.
Going to try and do a lot of leg workouts, moslty squats, deaflifts, calf raises etc. And hopefully bulk up my arms a bit. Planning to buy pure amino acids soon.. :S, also need to get some protein. Although I'm fairly tall here in Canada for my age, I have super short arms. Like a lot of my friends who are 5 foot 8, etc have only 2 inches less of a reach then me which is retarded. I'm 6 feet and my reach is only 7'7"..... I guess my vertical is pretty good seeing as how I can get my whole hand over and part of my wrist. From the tip of my finger to my wrist is about 7 inches. So, 7'7" to a 10 foot rim in order to touch would be 2 feet and 5" of vertical or 29 inches, but I can get about 7-9 inches over consistently, so I'd put my vertical at about 36-39 inches. Which is pretty good, but I really need to get higher to compensate for how small my hands are. Anyways, I'll keep you guys updated with my progress and Justin should be writing a blog soon. Thanks for reading guys, I'll hopefully get back to you tomorrow or the following day.

Quick Blog: Basketball

Alright guys, I have to make this fairly quick since I'm on a tight schedule but basically I'm trying to get my confidence back and so I've been practicing hard as of late. Today I decided to try and improve my jumpshot, took 250 shots from 10 different spots around the court, took 3 and a half hours. Followed by 30 pullups from the same spot. Did some two ball dribbling drills just trying to get quicker hands, sorry for such a short blog guys. But yea. Hoping to gain my confidence back soon :S. Thanks for following guys, it really gives me motivation to blog and to improve.

10 Reasons Why Hockey Is Better than Baseball.

Like Riley, I am deciding to post a blog apart from myself, and directing it to hockey and baseball in general. Here are 10 of my own reasons why hockey is better than basketball.

1. Hockey is more exciting:
I think it's a burden in itself to watch an inning of baseball, let alone a full game. You're glued to the screen when you watch hockey because the game is on a constant pace, there's always something going on, and the players are always moving. It's a huge thing whenever someone scores, a huge save or hit is made, when a fight breaks out...I can go on for hours. Sure there's the occasional catch ESPN puts on Sports Center's top 10, but when you really look at those plays, has anyone realized it's the same stuff done differently?

2. Hockey players are better to the fans: You're in public, you'll shake your favorite hockey player's hand or get his autograph before you even have a baseball player whose name you just recognize even acknowledge you. It's probably the difference in publicity and money that differentiates hockey and baseball players, personality wise. Sure there's a hockey player or 2 who aren't people friendly, or a baseball player that'll pose for a photo or give an autograph, but I'm talking about the general difference between hockey and baseball players.

3. Hockey players know how to fight: Baseball brawls are knee slappers to watch, but like those highlight plays, they're technically all the same. 2 players confront each other, talk smack, one throws a punch or 2, and wrestle each other, causing everyone surrounding them to mob one another. First off, look at how baseball players punch. It's not even a punch, it's more like a...closed fist swing, like they're trying to slap you, but they don't realize their hand is in a fist. I need not say more. When hockey players drop the gloves and baseball players do whatever it is they do, you know which one you'd rather see.

4. All hockey teams have opportunities on the ice and in the market: As of 4 years ago, the NHL instated a salary cap, which limits how much teams can spend per summer and how much they can offer a player, which is both lauded and scorned. Like it or hate it, I think it makes hockey a more competitive and unpredictable sport, since teams with a smaller market value have a chance to compete with teams of a bigger market value for more valuable players. This is rarely the case in baseball. When their small market teams obtain a star quality player, it's usually via trade or draft, a player that makes their name on that team, only to get traded or sign elsewhere when eligible because the team they're on can't afford the salary they demand or are deserving of. As a result, it seems that the same group of baseball teams make the playoffs, clinch the wild card, and compete in the world series, save the occasional "outsider" appearance. Looking at hockey, the last 2 Stanley Cup finals have been the latest case of recidivism in years, plus you can say the 16 playoff teams of the past 4 seasons have had several different competitors compared to the previous year.

5. Hockey is more unpredictable: This is more a combination of 1 and 4, but what I'm trying to say is in baseball, you know what's happening. The excitement can start soon as the pitcher releases the ball, which the batter either hits, fouls, strikes, or gets hit by. The bases are either empty, partially, or fully loaded, and even then a team sometimes fails to score a single run. Have we all been in the situation when we've watched a hockey game, the score's something like 2-1, we get up to get a drink, and return to see the score's changed to 3-2 or 3-3? That's spontaneity!

6. The NHL regular season is worth playing and watching: 82 games followed by 4 grueling best of 7 rounds, all to capture the hardest trophy to win in all sports. Baseball...not so much. Sure their season goes on for 160 something games in a span of 5, 6, months, causing the need to play games consecutively and those dreaded double headers. You have 30 teams playing over 160 games each only for 8 teams to compete in the playoffs. If you know you're team doesn't have a shred of hope to even finish .500, it ultimately makes the upcoming season a little purposeless, doesn't it? Since the NHL has an 82 game season, which is more spread out and makes the average fan excited for each upcoming game, not to mention the fact 16 NHL teams enter the post season, it instills the possibility of making the playoffs more realistic for the majority of the NHL's teams.

7. Contact!: Hockey's perhaps the greatest contact sport to watch in my bias opinion. I mean, can you really call a sport legit without physical contact in it? The most you'll see in baseball is a batter get hit by a pitch or intentionally colliding with the catcher as he attempts to score a run. I'll admit when I watch hockey, it's primarily to see players score goals and knock each other out. How exhilarating is it when someone gets clocked and the crowd erupts, sending a sensation of momentum through the building that I personally don't think any baseball stadium has ever experienced, save last year's outdoor classic. I bet if baseball allowed physical contact, it'd be more exciting to watch...just imagine.

8. Hockey players keep clean: Congress said the NHL was the cleanest sport in North America as far as usage of steroids or performance enhancement drugs were concerned. The last incident like that I recall is when Sean Hill got caught. The NHL does have the strictest drug policy in all sports. First offense 20 games, second 60 games, third, you're out of the league. How many baseball fans were speechless when they saw names on the Mitchell Report they thought they'd never see? The fact so many baseball stars were connected to steroids in recent years is appalling, discouraging, and taints the legitimacy and quality of any success such players and their teams amounted to. Hockey players aren't perfect, but at least we know how they play is truly them out there and hopefully nothing more.

9. Hockey's got limits: With 9 timeless innings, a baseball game can drag on and on, which is more tedious to watch especially if it's one of those drab contests. At least you're guaranteed an end to regulation in hockey. If it goes into overtime, the anticipation and knowledge that 1 goal determines the outcome is simply exhilarating. Hockey's got 3 periods lasting for 20 minutes, which not only provide a limitation for regulation, but make the game more meaningful since time becomes a huge factor. There's no focusing or taking one's time to recapture a lead or tie a game, not to mention the tide of a game can shift immensely in one period.

10. Hockey players are tougher: They play with broken fingers, feet, chipped teeth, black eyes, the list goes on. Even when they're out, they look to make a speedy recovery and get back in the game. Why is it that baseball players are out 2, 3 months with a stubbed toe or broken finger, whereas hockey players aren't even out for 2, 3 weeks? My guess is getting paid millions of dollars to sit at home is intriguing, I'd be tempted by such an opportunity. Baseball players are on the ground after getting hit with balls or those incidental collisions, which I know is painful and would knock the wind out of anyone, but it seems to me they're a level or two under the length soccer players take "injuries". Hockey players get rocked at games and finish them knowing they got fractures or concussions or whatever injuries they may endure. I don't know it just speaks for itself.

Nba review blog.

Alright so today I decided that instead of making a personal progress blog I'd go with just a nice short and simple blog on a re-cap of yesterdays game Dallas versus Oklahoma, as well as the game from 2 nights ago Chicago versus Miami...

Alright, so we'll start with the Chicago and Heat game. (Chicago bias)
I thought Chicago came out with a pretty decent start but started to blow it and Miami just pushed and pushed. Later on in the game though the bulls started to play a little better, but damn. They need to get their offense in check, and they were the #1 defensive team in the NBA, what happened to that? I mean, they're not playing bad defense but goddamn... It was absolutely ridiculous the show they let CB put on, I mean he was shooting a great percentage but you have to contest more. I thought boozer had an EXCELLENT game, and Derrick Rose played decent, but he definitely has more offensive capabilities then that. Overall it was a mediocre game.

Next is the Dallas and Oklahoma game. Personally I am a fan of Oklahoma, but I also enjoy watching Dallas play.
Alright, so, I thought Oklahoma did a great job starting this game and playing right until around the 4th quarter. I thought they were going to win for most of the game to be honest. Kevin Durant had an amazing game, 29 points and 15 rebounds, Westbrook played good too with 19 points and 8 assists, Ibaka also had a great game, 18 points and 10 rebounds. I think OKC definitely deserved to win this game, but what can you do when Dirk Nowitzki is out there playing the basketball of his life with 40 points and Jason Terry with 20 and Kidd with 17. I think OKC's biggest problem right now would be their defense. But overall it wasn't a bad game. Hopefully OKC can pull through with the next victory.

That's pretty much all I have to say, appreciate the input. And thanks for coming to my blog guys, I can't thank you enough and I really enjoy posting.

Riley's basketball introduction:

Alright, so my name is Riley and most of the time I'll be blogging about basketball or maybe just daily events, who knows. Anyways, here is my introduction:
I'm 6 feet tall, weighing about 150 pounds so I'm pretty skinny, but I love the sport of basketball. I've been playing ever since grade 6, and in grade 8 and 9 you could consider me one of the best players in the province (live in Canada so provinces). But anyways, for some reason, my confidence just dropped, like I was still up there, but I wasn't finding it in me to score anymore. Basically I'm just trying to get back into things and make it far, and I'll be using this blog as a way to track my progress. Sorry mine isn't as long as Justin's, but yeah :P .

Thanks for reading,
-Riley

Justin's introduction hockey blog

Hi my is Justin Penner, I just turned 15 years old last month. I'm 5'10 and 170 pounds. Im pretty thick, and I love hockey. I have increased my skill by a tremendous amount in the past couple years. Im in grade 9 now, and in grade 7, I was an a3 house league level player goalie. The leagues go a3, a2, a1, aa, and aaa. aaa being the highest caliber. I was pretty bad, and always got made fun of. In grade 8 I was tired of it, so I had bought player equipment and put it on. I was some-what of an unnatural. I was still pretty bad, but I loved it with a passion! I worked out at my house, and spent my own money on things to better myself. I was getting better rapidly, so I would be prepared to make something over a3. I went to a1 try outs, and gave it my all, and had made a1! The feeling was amazing, but still looked down upon by my peers, because a1 was still considered bad. I loved hockey, and was a decent a1 player. I was defense and had got 10 points that season! After the school year ended, and the hockey season, I wanted to better myself. I not being that rich had to raise money, while all my other peers were spending thousands on fitness training, and hockey camps. I bought a set of weights, protein, and researched all the muscles to work on. After that summer I was a machine. I had went to aa try outs being confident, in the 2 exhibition games, I had gotten 10 points! I had trick each game, and 2 assist. I was pumped, and had made the team! That year, I went into grade 9 as an aa player. I was so excited to tell everyone. All my aa peers were very impressed, but still looked down upon by the aaa peers. That season I finished with about 30 points, and  I missed over 5 games. Also, my coaches didn't like me. It was a rough year. Now, I had finally convinced my parents to pay the thousands of dollars on fitness training and camps. I am working very, very hard, looking to make aaa next year. My goal by tryouts which is in September is to be 5'11 200 pounds. I think my main motivation would be all the teasing, even my parents made fun of me for being in a3... But yea, this is basically my introduction. :)

Introduction to Riley & Justin's sports blog!

Alright, so basically me and a friend named Justin have a real passion with two sports, Riley's is for basketball, and Justin's is for hockey. Basically, we're both planning to blog on here, and track our progress considering we both plan to make it big one day. Basically this blog will be updated periodically (2-4 times per week) with us talking about those two sports, whether it be professionally, personally, or simply to get other people's inputs. We will use this blog for the next couple years to track our progress, and hopefully we make it big. :). We would like to thank all of you in advance for coming to our blog.

Much love,
-Justin and Riley.
